Week 12

Week 12 officially kick starts as the last week of Community Service Initiative and last efforts to make the mini library at Serendah look the best it can be. My team and I needed to take care of a few things in order to prepare for the Launching Day this Saturday 22/6/2019. Sem 6 class was prep to divide to in to two teams; team 1 was tasked with arranging tables, cups, utensils drink dispenser and food that ms Norji has contacted from her own contact, team 2 was to prepare the decorations and decorate the place with balloons and ribbons as well as prepare the launching gimmick.

We also told whom among the VIPS will be there; 3 Vips from Taylors, 3 Vips from Yayasan and 20+ students. 

We chose to buy balloons from Jordan be cause he was a part time seller for events and he could supply our balloons for Launching Day event. 

He offered Ideas on location to put the balloons and how many it would take. We settled on around 30 balloons at a price of 100rm. 3-4 balloons in a cluster will be hung from the ceiling truss as well as creating a awning of balloons on the outside facade next to brand new bunting. 

My team also suggested a classic launching gimmick to have the VIPS cut the ribbon to officially hand over the library to the Orang Asli. 

Lastly we were told that 2 students from the kampung will be receiving special donations because they have received very good results in their SPM. They have chosen to go to UITM and we made efforts to make that happen. 

 On the Saturday my group started to make our way up to Kampung for Launching Day. We first started to pump up the balloons to decorate the place. Unfortunately we had heard that the previous night, a bad thunderstorm had damage some of the fuse in the site and caused one of fans to dis-function. Thus we made efforts to call a specialist and see if we could replace it as it was still under warranty.

Ms Norji has requested that we purchase a last min item; a metal cabinet that is able to lock. 

 Deco team was preparing the ribbons for the launching gimmick.

Stationery Team was preparing the cups and baskets for the stationery.

 Presents were being wrapped to give away to the VIPS.

Lastly we prep-ed the tables for the food, drinks and others, before the guest arrives. 

 I then gave the first speech to thank the guest to arrive and to thank the sponsors of whom have made efforts to donate in terms of furniture, books, or money.

We then started to watch the video of day 1 preparation till today. 

As we entered the end of the ceremony we invited the guest to cut the ribbons to officially hand over the mini library to the Kampung. 

We then ended the ceremony by eating the food catered and socializing with the guest and the children of the kampung. 

Week 11

Week 11, we are still having complications with the furniture puchasing. And multiple plans have come up but to no action was taken. 1st plan was to have two teams buy the furniture. Group 4 would go and purchase the shelves becuase they have found a cheaper location, while group 1 will buy the others at ikea. However by thursday afternoon we have received word that group 4 is unable to purchase the furniture due to some trouble and thus making the group 1 purchase everything from Ikea o friday the 14th june.

Thus we went to ikea to purchase everything from shelving to children chair and tables.

This Saturday the 15th of June, a team of group 1 is to meet with the other groups at the site of Serendah, Selangor. We are to transport the furnitures and assemble it at the site. My team consist of Bryan, Jordan, Patrick, Janson, Aisyah and Fiona. We had spent the whole day there as we left at 9am and finished our progress at 5pm. 

The progress during the whole day was very rewarding and tiring at the same time. By 5 pm, we could see the whole site become a very nice place. The juniors has painted the the exterior and interior as well as clean the drainage on all sides of the building. By the end of the day we had manage to finish assembling.

The next step would be for next Saturday which is launching day. The day we hand over the library to the Orang Asli Kids of Kampung Serendah.
